Cleveland just made it a whole lot cheaper to switch to two wheels. The city, in partnership with Bike Cleveland, has launched the Cleveland E-Bike Rebate Program, a new pilot that puts real money back in residents' pockets when they buy a qualifying electric bike. And we've got good news for our neighbors: Sixth City Cycles is one of only four bike shops in all of Cuyahoga County where you can redeem your rebate.

What Is the Cleveland E-Bike Rebate Program?
The Cleveland E-Bike Rebate Program is a one-year pilot from the City of Cleveland's Office of Sustainability, run in partnership with the local advocacy nonprofit Bike Cleveland and funded by the George Gund Foundation. The goal is simple: make cleaner, more affordable transportation available to more Clevelanders, no matter their age, ability, or budget.
E-bikes are one of the easiest ways to cut down on car trips. They help you get to work, run errands, haul groceries, or just enjoy a ride around the neighborhood, all while saving money on gas and cutting local air pollution. The rebate program is designed to lower the upfront cost that keeps a lot of people from making the switch.
How Much Can You Save?
Rebate amounts depend on your household income, but every income level is welcome to apply. Your income is only used to determine which rebate amount you qualify for.
$500 Standard Rebate: available to eligible Cleveland residents.
Up to $1,500 Income-Qualified Rebate: available to residents who meet income requirements (at or below 80% of the Cleveland Area Median Income for their household size) or who participate in a qualifying assistance program such as SNAP, WIC, LIHEAP, Section 8, Pell Grant, SSI/SSDI, or TANF.
Who's Eligible?
To apply for the rebate, you must:
Be 18 years or older
Live within the City of Cleveland
Apply for one e-bike per household (only one rebate can be awarded per household)
If you're selected, you'll be asked to provide documentation: proof of Cleveland residency, a valid photo ID, and, if you're applying for the income-qualified amount, proof of income or program participation.
How the Program Works
The program runs in three straightforward steps.
1. Apply online. Submit your application during the open application period at ebikecleveland.com. The applications portal opened September 1, 2026.
2. Get selected. Rebates are awarded through a random drawing, not first come, first served, so everyone who applies has a fair shot. If you're not selected right away, you'll be placed on a waitlist.
3. Redeem your rebate. Once you're approved, you'll have 60 days to purchase a qualifying e-bike from a participating shop in Cuyahoga County. Don't wait too long, because if the rebate isn't used within 60 days, it expires and may be offered to someone on the waitlist.
One important note: rebates can only be used in person at a participating bike shop. Online purchases don't qualify, which is exactly where we come in.
What Kind of E-Bike Can You Buy?
Your rebate is good toward a new Class 1 or Class 2 e-bike with a UL-certified battery. (Class 3 e-bikes and used bikes don't qualify.) If there's money left over after your bike purchase, you can also put it toward eligible safety gear like a helmet or a lock.
